What better way to celebrate a year of exemplary charitable generosity than by giving away a shiny new car? United Way of Eastern Maine, in collaboration with Darling’s auto dealership, hosted its annual campaign finale and celebrated contributions of over $2.7 million by giving away a new Nissan Versa.
More than 400 businesses and their employees donated to the United Way last year. Hannaford, Sargent Corporation, and WoodenBoat magazine were all honored for outstanding campaigns; the Campaign Leader Award went to Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, which raised more than $248,000; and Bangor Savings Bank was presented with its third straight Community Impact Award. Other awards honored best new campaigns, best partner agency, and outstanding campaign volunteer.
Contributions from United Way help local charities from five counties. While winning a new car was certainly cause for celebration for Suellen Jagels, who won the Nissan, neighbors in need are the real winners from this campaign.
