Go Green auction nets $19K for Orono Library Foundation

The third annual Orono Public Library benefit auction had a colorful twist this year. Its “Go Green” theme showcased the foundation’s plans to build a LEED-certified library and included item categories such as Green-i-licious, Green Thumb, and Green With Envy.

Nearly 150 community members gathered at the Buchanan Alumni House in Orono for the festive occasion, enjoying hors d’oeuvres, live music by guitarist Rich Kenefic, and lively bidding on over 100 great auction items. John Cheney of Realty of Maine presided over the live auction festivities, encouraging bidders to remember that they were there to build a library. The event raised nearly $19,000 for the foundation, bringing their funds raised to within $254,245 of their $2.2 million goal. With ground breaking planned for this summer, the auction proceeds provide a great boost in this final phase of fundraising.
