Supporters of the YMCA and YWCA of Greater Bangor aren't afraid to spend money and rock out for a good cause.
Maybe it’s all that exercise, but the staff and supporters of the Bangor Y seemed to have more than their share of energy for eating, schmoozing, bidding, and boogying, all for the sake of its 130-plus family-friendly programs.

The November event, held at Spectacular Event Center in Bangor, opened with a silent auction and dinner. The fundraising really got rolling when auctioneer and longtime Y supporter Richard Cattelle did some fast talking. Some of the noteworthy bids include: $425 for a UMaine hockey jersey, autographed by the 2006–2007 Black Bears men’s team; $275–$1,400 for original artwork by local artists Carol Colson, Debra Daniels, and Vitauts Knuble, and artist proofs by Bill Bracken and Collette King; $250–$1,000 for Stephen King personalized books; $350 for dinner for four at Baldacci’s Restaurant, served by Gov. John Baldacci; $250 for lunch with Angus King; $1,000 for a retro juke box stocked and ready to rock.

The event also scored $900 for a performance of the RetroRockerz—a group of local business professionals who wrapped up the evening with some Baby Boomers boogie
