Sometimes it’s a good thing to eat one’s words. It was, at least, at the Book2Eat annual fundraiser for Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor. In 2000, the first International Book2Eat Festival was held in Australia, France, and parts of the U.S. The next year, EMCC joined in challenging its students, professional chefs, and the public to create their favorite story out of food. The entries are judged, and then auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the school’s library.
The Eastern Maine Medical Center Library group also took home an award in the “Everyone Else” category for their creation of pop-up book creator Jack Tickle’s character Busy Bee. Turns out the group couldn’t part with their own work; they ended up bidding on it at the end of the night. But their entry wasn’t the only cake causing a buzz: In all, $517 was raised for the community college’s library.
