Lifestyle: Sightings

Writers and readers met to celebrate the written word and raise scholarship dollars, too.
Maine authors have cranked out enough great books this past year to keep us reading through mud season and beyond. A few of our most respected writers, including Tess Gerritsen, Kate Flora, and Bangor natives Joe Hill, Owen King, and Christina Baker Kline, among others, paused to powwow with writers from across North America about the writing process at the 2007 Maine Literary Festival in late fall. (The governor was apparently so impressed with the lineup that he declared that same Friday and Saturday “Maine Literary Weekend.”) The annual Maine Author Series and Literary Festival, held this year at the Camden Opera House, is a scholarship project of the Midcoast Branch of the American Association of University Women. All proceeds from the festival are used for the Midcoast AAUW’s scholarships for young women who might otherwise not be able to attend college.
