Rockland-Thomaston area Chamber celebrates a big year with a first-class splash.
It’s been a big year for the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber of Com-merce: They have new digs (in their beautiful new Gateway Center), and their executive director, Bob Hastings, was named Maine’s Chamber Executive of the Year. It only makes sense that their 2006 Annual Dinner be a big splash.

It was. Held at the Samoset Resort, the gala was abuzz with anticipation from the first appetizer onward, as this fundraiser is also the chamber’s annual awards dinner.

The awards themselves make it clear that the Rockland-Thomaston area is serious about economic development. Area building renovations, both inside and out, commercial and public sector, were recognized with awards and sincere applause. Among those recognized for building improvements were Breakwater Marketplace, LLC—for its renovation of the former Nautica manufacturing plant—Harbor Beauty Bar, and the Salvation Army.

While capital investments were recognized, so were essential intangibles like Community Spirit, awarded to Liberty Hospitality, and Community Service, awarded to Youthlinks
. The coveted Chamber Person of the Year award was given to John Ware, president of Maritime Energy, and longtime friend of the
community.

After all those accolades and banquet tables of delicious food (the prime rib was superb), it was time to celebrate a year of great achievements with a few sets of well-deserved dancing.
